The Barbershop Society was founded in 1938 in Tulsa OK. Known previously as SPEBSQSA, "Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America; we are now known as the "Barbershop Harmony Society". Society headquarters moved from Kenosha, WI to Nashville, TN in mid 2007 to be closer to the American music scene.
Our chapter, known as the "Greater Rockford Barbershop Chorus" was formed in 1948. Our's is one of 900 chapters, now worldwide. The Barbershop Society boasts over 33,000 members while our chorus has more than 30 members.
Our chapter has written and produced an annual show for more than 64 years. It normally takes more than 7 months to prepare, so we start working on it in January. Our reporitoire includes songs from 1900 through the 1980's and is constantly changing. We enjoy singing all types of music and this year we prepared a number of patriotic songs to celebrate the USA and more than 60 years of Barbershop Hamonizing in the Rockford chapter.
We are "Men Who Like To Sing" and we are always looking for new members to enhance all singing parts. It's a great way to learn how to be a better singer and come together with some great guys with similar interests. We invite you to give us a try, then stay for just "One More Good One"!
Keep the Whole World Singing!
